1. Placement Issue (Keeps Slipping Off)
If the earpiece does not stay securely on your tragus, stimulation may be inconsistent.
✔ Check Hook Fit: Ensure the ear hook sits comfortably behind your ear without pulling forward or backward.
✔ Electrode Coverage: The white pad must fully cover the tragus — if it's too far inside the ear or outside the tragus, reposition it.
✔ Improve Adhesion:
- Lightly moisten the electrode with water.
- Alternatively, use a medical-grade conductive gel for a better electrical connection and grip.
- Apply medical-grade tape over the electrode to keep it in place during movement.
- Some users wear over-the-head headphones to hold the earpiece in position (optional but helpful).
- Be in a relaxed state.
2. No Sensation
If you do not feel any tingling or pulsing:
✔ Start at Low Level: Begin at the lowest setting, then increase gradually using the + button until you feel a mild sensation.
✔ Check Placement: Ensure the electrode sits flat on the tragus and not on the other area of the ear.
✔ Moisture Check: If your skin is dry, moisten the electrode slightly or apply a thin layer of conductive gel.
✔ Finger Test: Before placing on the ear, press the electrode to your finger and increase intensity slightly. If you feel a pulse, the device is working.
3. Intermittent Sensation
If stimulation comes and goes:
✔ Check Movement: The electrode may be shifting during the session. Re-adjust and secure with tape if needed.
✔ Inspect Electrode Condition: Worn-out electrodes can cause inconsistent contact. Replace if the surface is cracked, dirty, or peeling.
✔ Cable Security: Ensure the cable is fully plugged in and not loose at either end.
✔ Skin Preparation: Make sure the tragus is clean and free of lotions, which can reduce conductivity.
4. Burn or Redness on the Tragus
If you notice irritation or a burning sensation:
✔ Lower Intensity: Immediately reduce energy to a comfortable level.
✔ Shorten Sessions: Instead of 60 minutes, try 30 minutes per session until the skin adapts.
✔ Alternate Ears: If approved by your clinician, switch between left and right ear in future sessions to give the skin a break.
✔ Always Moisten Electrode: Dry electrodes create hotspots that can irritate the skin.
✔ Pause Use: If redness persists for more than 24 hours, stop using the device and contact support.
5. Sudden Shock or Zap
A sudden zap usually means the electrode lost contact briefly while stimulation was active:
✔ Check Contact: Make sure the electrode sits firmly on the tragus with full skin contact.
✔ Moisten Electrode: Dry pads can break contact easily — apply water or conductive gel before every session.
✔ Pause Before Adjusting: If you need to reposition, pause the device first to avoid a sudden surge.
✔ Replace Worn Electrodes: A damaged or dirty electrode can cause uneven current flow.
6. Problem Connecting Earpiece to Device
If the device does not detect the earpiece:
✔ Full Insertion: Ensure the plug is fully inserted into the Nuropod controller port.
✔ Check for Debris: Look for dust or lint in the connector and gently clean it if necessary.
✔ Test with Another Cable/Earpiece: This helps determine if the issue is with the cable or the controller.
✔ Inspect Cable for Damage: Look for kinks, cuts, or fraying.
7. Cannot Increase Intensity During a Session
If the Plus button (+) is unresponsive while a session is already in progress:
✔ Press Enter First: To increase intensity during an active session, press the Enter button (large round button) twice, then use the Plus button (+) to increase the level. Once done, press the Enter button once again to restart the session. Note: the Minus button (–) can be used at any time without this step.
